The fourth IGCP638 meeting is expected to be held in Algiers on Oct. 28th - Nov. 2nd, 2019, and will be hosted by the "Algerian Geological Survey Agency" (ASGA) with :

-  2 days conference: Oct. 28-29th, 2019

-  4 days field trip:  Oct. 30th - Nov. 2nd, 2019 (up to 40-50 participants) within the eastern part of the Tellian Atlas (Algeria) along with a WE transect (Algiers, Sétif, Djemila, Guelma, Edough-Annaba) where mineralizations related to various environments, linked to basement and sedimentary cover, are hosted in diapiric, karstic and sedimentary formations (Pb, Au, Zn, Sb, Fe, Mn, Mg, PGE, P2O5, etc.). Several visits of mines, quarries are expected.

At the end of the 7th colloquium, dedicated to "Applied Geophysics and Natural Resources" (CMGA7) organized by the "Maghreban Applied Geophysics Community" in Algiers, the "Association of Maghreban Applied Geophysics" (AMGA) was created. Most of the members are interested to attend the 4th IGCP638 meeting.

However, the most interested participants expected for the 4th IGCP638 meeting are traditionally from: Algeria; Australia; Belgium; Benin; Brazil; Burkina Faso; Cameroon; Côte d’Ivoire; Democratic Republic of Congo; France; Gabon; Gambia; Germany; Ghana; Guinea; Liberia; Morocco; Mali; Niger; Nigeria; Mauritania; Russia; Senegal; Sierra Leone; South Africa; Spain; Switzerland; Togo; Tunisia; UK; Uruguay; USA.

A special volume in Geol. Soc. London (Lyell) [titled "Mineralisation and sustainable development in West African Craton: From field observations to modelling"] will probably be delivered just after the meeting.

This meeting could be held jointly with the WAXI annual meeting (Oct., 2019) and organized jointly with the WAXI team, depending on both igcp638 and WAXI schedules, to better (i) help establish relations between industrial partners, students, academics and other professionals for further scientific collaborations, through research programs in progress or to come and (ii) welcome granted students in different labs for rock analyses and field data processing, etc. A database, available in a server of the University of Rennes 1, is dedicated to that purpose, i.e. storage, analysis, processing and modelling of field and numerical data using large memory and high speed processors fitting big amount of data (data mining as well). This program is running in parallel and in close collaboration with the Ecos program (Rio de la Plata, Uruguay): airborne data processing, field data acquisition, multi- stages, -scales of geophysical, geological & geochemical analyses. Several PhD and MSc students take part in these programs (see PhD-MSc supervisions).

The main leader for the organization of this meeting is Dr. K. Tafer (Director of the ASGA, Algiers) and her local organizing team.

The proceedings (as extended abstracts) will be published in a special volume of the Bulletin of the Geological Survey of Algeria (Bull. SGN). The extended abstracts should be uploaded online for evaluation by the scientific committee of the igcp638 (deadline: Oct. 15th, 2019) -> link to upload extended abstracts
